Hearing scheduled for WIS 15 designation in Outagamie County

Highway being designated as an expressway

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region in Green Bay is announcing a public hearing to discuss the future expressway designation for WIS 15 from US 45 to Julius Drive in Outagamie County. The meeting will be held Wednesday, January 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hortonville Community Hall, 312 W. Main Street, Hortonville. A short presentation has been scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The hearing will be held as an open house and the public can attend at their convenience. It will provide attendees the opportunity to present relevant oral testimony to a court reporter and/or written testimony regarding the WIS 15 designation in accordance with Wisconsin Statutes.

An expressway designation on WIS 15 from US 45 to Julius Drive will assist WisDOT in controlling future access along this section of WIS 15. Without controlling direct access, the safety and operating capacity of the highway will deteriorate. The designation helps regulate traffic patterns, thereby decreasing crash potential, preserving traffic-carrying capabilities, and protecting the existing public investment in the roadway.

This is NOT a public information meeting regarding WIS 15 construction. WisDOT will not present any new information regarding the future construction on WIS 15. This is a state-mandated, procedural hearing regarding designation of this portion of WIS 15. The expressway designation project is running concurrently with the WIS 15 construction project. Construction of the WIS 15 expansion and bypass of the village of Hortonville is currently scheduled to begin in 2016. Persons unable to attend the meeting can mail, email or fax written statements or other exhibits in place of or in addition to the testimony presented at the public meeting. All relevant material, received no later than March 1, 2013, will be included in the official transcript.
