Governor Walker announces nearly $240,000 for transportation grant to town of New Chester

Governor Scott Walker announced today that the town of New Chester in Adams County is being awarded a Transportation Economic Assistance (TEA) grant. The $237,800 award represents the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s contribution toward the reconstruction of Fifth Avenue, which will provide improved direct access to New Chester Dairy’s expanding operation.

This TEA grant will retain and create 57 direct jobs at New Chester Dairy and support another 29 indirect jobs. The .6 mile improvement project will make Fifth Avenue an all-weather, all season roadway able to safely handle increased truck traffic. The $237,800 TEA grant represents half of the $475,600 construction project. The remainder of the funding is being provided by the town of New Chester. Construction is set to begin this spring.

New Chester Dairy sells all of its milk to Grassland, Inc. in Greenwood, Wisconsin. The milk is made into butter for resale in Wisconsin and the Midwest. New Chester Dairy is doubling its Adams County operation to 8,600 milking cows.

Since its start in 1987, Wisconsin’s TEA grant program has invested more than $89.1 million in 325 projects benefiting 355 businesses and creating or retaining 76,208 jobs around the state. For a complete listing of TEA grants and project details, visit the Wisconsin DOT web site.
