Semi crash into Red Cedar River - Update: EB I-94 now open
March 5, 2013
Crews have recovered the semi tractor trailer that had been submerged in the Red Cedar River near Menomonie since 4 a.m.
Emergency crews have also recovered one body, believed to be the driver of the semi. At this time, a search has begun for a second passenger, based on information from the company that the unit was travelling with two people. The truck was based out of Lansing, Michigan. No names are being released at this time, nor is the name of the company.
The semi was travelling west on I-94 on snow covered roads. Initial indications are that the semi entered the median prior to the river, travelled through the median and went down the embankment into the river.
Eastbound I-94 is now open near Menomonie.
More information will be provided as it becomes known.
Travelers are encouraged to check winter road conditions before leaving by calling 5-1-1 or visiting Wisconsin 511 online.
