Verona Road Project weekly construction update: July 28 to August 1

All lane restrictions and work operations are weather-dependent and subject to change.

Note: The Verona Road work zone speed limit is 30 mph between the Beltline and Raymond Road. For everyone's safety, please drive with caution through the work zones.

Starting next week, the City of Fitchburg and Dane County will reconstruct County PD (McKee Road) from Seminole Highway east to Fish Hatchery Road (County D). Construction is anticipated to be completed in late October 2014. More information can be found on the County PD (McKee Road) reconstruction website.

Verona Road work

  • Two lanes open to traffic (in each direction) on new northbound lanes, between the Beltline and Raymond Road.
    • View the traffic staging plans.
    • Work zone speed limit is 30 mph. Drive with caution through the work zones.
    • NOTE: Frontage road speed limits are typically 25 mph. Drive with caution on the frontage roads, especially Britta Parkway.
  • Access remains open to area businesses and neighborhoods.
    • Regardless of any roadwork inconvenience, please continue to patronize area businesses in the Verona Road work zone.
  • Daytime work on Verona Road southbound and the frontage roads.
  • Allied Drive/East Frontage Road, between Thurston Lane and Red Arrow Trail, to be CLOSED with no through access on Tuesday, July 29. Traffic to be re-routed on Red Arrow Trail and Thurston Lane.
  • Hammersley Road cul-du-sac (north of the Beltline) is CLOSED until August 29. No detour posted.
  • Freeport Connection is open to traffic (temporary roadway under Verona Road near Southwest Commuter Path).
    • The Southwest Commuter Path remains open in this area.

Westbound Beltline

  • Nighttime ramp closure from Whitney Way to the westbound Beltline.
    • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (July 31 to August 1)
  • Nighttime lane closure on the westbound Beltline from Whitney Way to Gammon Road.
    • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (July 31 to August 1)
  • Nighttime lane closures on the westbound Beltline, between Todd Drive and Seminole Highway.
    • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (July 31 to August 1)

Eastbound Beltline

  • Nighttime lane closure on the eastbound Beltline from Gammon Road to Whitney Way.
    • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (July 31 to August 1)
  • Nighttime lane closures on the eastbound Beltline, between Seminole Highway and Todd Drive.
    • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (July 31 to August 1)
    • Ramps to remain open.
  • Median shoulder CLOSED on the eastbound Beltline from Gammon Road to Whitney Way until July 25.

West Beltline Frontage Road (east of Verona Road)

  • CLOSED to through traffic, between Britta Parkway and Whenona Drive (south of the Beltline), until October 15, 2014.
    • Alternate routes are required. Access to area businesses to remain open.

Whitney Way and Gilbert Road intersection

  • Daytime work will occur at Whitney Way and Gilbert Road. Single lane closure may occur along Whitney Way at the intersection.
  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (July 28 to August 1)

Verona Road and County PD (Military Ridge path)

  • Daytime single lane closures may occur on westbound and eastbound County PD (McKee Road) at the Military Ridge overpass.
    • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (July 28 to August 1) 
  • Work is ongoing along the abandoned railroad line, just east of the Verona Road and County PD intersection.
    • This portion of the trail to be closed on north and south sides of County PD until summer 2014.
    • Military Ridge State Trail along Verona Road remains open.

Please be alert for crews working in the area and drive with caution through the work zones.

Weekly construction updates are provided on the project website under the News tab. Updates include upcoming lane closures and traffic impacts related to the major Verona Road reconstruction.
