Andrew Trimble, airport engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said the project will replace the existing pavement that has been broken up due to age and weather. Additionally, an evaluation of the base materials beneath these areas will also be performed and remedial work will be done, if needed, to ensure long life for the new taxiway and apron pavement.

Funding Breakdown

  • State = $36,052
  • City of Tomahawk = $36,053
  • Federal Aviation Administration = $703,288

Project design is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2014, with construction to follow; it should be completed later this year.

Tomahawk Regional Airport is one of 98 facilities included in the Wisconsin State Airport System Plan, which makes it eligible for state and federal funding. Airport improvement projects are administered through WisDOT’s Bureau of Aeronautics.
