Weekend events expected to cause delays on I-43 and US 41

August 1, 2014

Significant delays expected near Port Washington on Friday and Saturday

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is informing travelers of potentially serious weekend delays on I-43 in Milwaukee and Ozaukee counties and on US 41 in Washington County.

In addition to usual summer travel, thousands of motorists will be heading to Green Bay for Packers Family Night on Saturday and to Oshkosh for EAA AirVenture which runs all weekend. Traffic is anticipated to be heaviest Friday afternoon and evening on northbound routes and Sunday on southbound routes.

  • As part of a resurfacing project, traffic will be down to one lane Friday overnight on I-43 North from WIS 32 to Falls Road. However, the majority of motorists are not expected to be traveling during these late hours.
  • As part of ongoing bridge work in northern Ozaukee County, traffic will be reduced to one lane on I-43 north and south at County LL, near Fredonia.

Portable message signs will be found along I-43, directing drivers to the alternate route. The recommended alternate route follows WIS 57 northbound to WIS 23 eastbound, back to I-43.

Motorists are urged to pay close attention to message boards and traffic control signs. Please check Wisconsin 511 online for-up to-date information.
