WIS 26 corridor EIS - Proposed access changes between Milton and Janesville

WIS 26 was upgraded to a four-lane highway between Janesville and Milton in 1999. Currently, there are several private driveways and side road access connections along this segment of the roadway.

Future traffic volumes and area growth indicate a long-term need to limit and manage the number of access points along WIS 26 in order to ensure that WIS 26 functions as an efficient long-distance route between I-39/90 and US 151. Limiting access along the route is also important for improving safety, especially as traffic volumes grow. These changes would be made in the future as traffic volumes grow.

All communities on WIS 26 will benefit from having an efficient and safe facility connecting them to I-39/90 and the Fox Valley.

Proposed changes include:

  • Closing the existing County Y intersection at WIS 26 and rerouting County Y into a new intersection near McCormick Road.
  • Closing the existing Bingham Road intersection.
  • Creating a full diamond interchange at Harmony Town Hall Road.
  • Adding an overpass bridge connecting the east and west segments of Town Line Road.
  • Adding an overpass bridge connecting Henke Road to St. Mary's Road.
  • Creating a frontage road on the north side of WIS 26 in order to remove driveways directly accessing WIS 26.
