WIS 164 (County J), I-94 - WIS 175 - Maps, Utility corridor off-alignment alternatives

As part of the initial data gathering and alternatives development process, the WIS 164 reconstruction study team solicited input from interested parties on possible non-existing-alignment options for handling north-south local and through traffic in the project corridor.

Some members of the project’s advisory committee, along with others living along the corridor, identified a route located along an existing power transmission line east of the existing highway. This alternative route, commonly called the “power corridor,” is comprised of the old WIS 164 south of County K (Lisbon Road).

The alternative then would turn to the east, either onto County K or south of County K from old WIS 164, would proceed east to a point east of the golf course and airport, and then would turn to the north and follow the transmission line to near the existing County Y/WIS 167 interchange with US 41/45.

It has been noted that this corridor was identified in the 1960s as a part of a proposed alignment for the “Belt Freeway,” a Milwaukee-area bypass that was never constructed.

The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC) has modeled the amount of traffic that would be diverted to this alternative from the existing highway.
