Study location

I-39, WIS 54 to US 10 west, in Stevens Point, Plover, Dewey and Hull, in Portage County.

Study overview

Study to examine 14 miles of existing traffic conditions along I-39 corridor and identify future capacity, safety, and design needs.

I-39 is an important north/south roadway within the state highway system with four main interchanges being evaluated as part of the study:

  • WIS 54
  • County B
  • WIS 66 west/US 10 east
  • Stanley St./WIS 66 east

Main objective is to identify, develop, and design preliminary freeway and interchange enhancements to meet the long-term needs of the corridor.

Potential improvements include:

  • Freeway expansion
  • Bridge rehabilitation and replacement
  • Interchange reconfigurations at WIS 54, Portage County B, WIS 66 west/US 10 east, and Stanley St./WIS 66 east
  • Traffic control changes

Alternatives will be proposed to accommodate the future traffic demand.

Study started Aug. 2010.

Status/phase

Study concept development/evaluation with no construction activity at this time.
