I-39 (WIS 54 - US 10 west) Corridor - Need/purpose
Stevens Point Area Corridor Study

Why is this project needed?

Several of the interchanges in the project area are experiencing operational, safety, and geometric deficiencies due to increased traffic volumes and commercial development in the area. In addition, the existing mainline pavement is deteriorating.

Purpose

  • Identify a long-term vision for I-39 project corridor.
  • Provide a safe and efficient transportation system by correcting existing geometric deficiencies.
  • Serve long-term traffic demand through freeway and interchange capacity improvements.

Project benefits

Provides a long-term vision and relative timeline for capacity and safety improvements along the I-39 Stevens Point area corridor.

Study also identifies associated impacts and costs. This should allow WisDOT to strategically implement projects in a cost effective manner as not to preclude future investments or render previous improvements obsolete.
