Business 51 (Post Road) - Need/purpose

Why is this project needed?

Business 51 is an important transportation corridor with a significant number of commercial establishments.

Project will address safety and congestion. Existing roadway has a higher than average crash rate that is expected to worsen with increasing traffic in coming years.

High volume of traffic on Business 51 makes entering and exiting the highway difficult, especially for left turning vehicles.

Project will also address bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.

• Ease congestion
• Address access and increase safety
• Increase bicycle and pedestrian accessibility by providing bike lanes and sidewalks on both sides of the roadway
