Study location

US 8, 15th St. to Hay River (east of Almena), in Polk and Barron counties. Combination of the Tier I Segment 5 and a portion of segment 6.

Study overview

Tier I study did not select a preferred alignment for the western portion of this segment between 15th St. and 4th St.

Tier II study will build upon the evaluation and selection of a preferred alignment for this area as well as completing further evaluation on that preferred alignment to determine the type of facility, access location and type, and official mapping of the future right of way.

Status/phase

Study - Long term planning with no construction activity

Current

  • Fall - Winter 2012 - Preliminary design for County KK to Hay River including grade separation at County P intersection.
  • Winter 2012 - PIM to discuss design of preferred alternative for Turtle Lake/Almena segment (15th St.-Hay River)

Future

  • Winter 2012/2013 - Tier II Environmental Assessment
  • 2015 - Tier II scheduled to be completed
  • To be determined (TBD) - Tier III is the final design and construction. In order to advance to this tier, the legislature needs to approve funding

  • Fall-Winter 2011 - Preliminary design for Turtle Lake/Almena segment (15th St.-Hay River)
  • Fall 2011 - Selection of preferred alternative for Turtle Lake/Almena segment (15th St.-Hay River)
  • Oct. 14, 2011 - Comment period ended.
  • Sept. 28, 2011 - PIM to discuss the study underway for Tier II Turtle Lake/Almena segment (15th St.-Hay River)
  • April 19, 2011 - PIM for Turtle Lake/Almena segment (15th St.-Hay River)
