Planning resources

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) provides a number of resources to assist transportation professionals with their planning efforts. If you have questions or need additional information on any of the following items, send an email to bop.dtim@dot.wi.gov.

System maps

Corridor studies and plans
Part of WisDOT’s long-range transportation plan, Connections 2030, is the identification of a series of system-level priority corridors. These corridors are critical to Wisconsin’s travel patterns and support the state’s economy. Information about individual corridor studies and plans, sorted by transportation region, is also available on this web site.

Manuals and Guidances

New The Transportation Planning Manual is a web-based tool that facilitates the communication of planning policy and serves as a planning information resource.

WisDOT has developed planning guidances for the development of pedestrian and bicycle facilities.

WisDOT created a document that provides guidelines for developing Transportation Improvement Programs (TIPs).

Comprehensive planning
A number of resources, including downloadable element guidebooks, are available on WisDOT's "transportation and land use" Web.

Local consultation
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) consults continually with local officials in areas of the state that are not served by metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs).
