Milwaukee Airport Railroad Station (MARS) platform and canopy extension - Need/purpose

Why is this project needed?

The longer platform and canopy will better accommodate the train length and will allow all doors on the train to be used for boarding and deboarding passengers. This will improve Hiawatha Service quality and on-time performance on the existing route. The extended platform will also allow the engine to stop along the platform in the event the engineer has to enter or exit the train.
