Truesdell crossovers (Kenosha and Racine Counties) - Purpose

What is the purpose of this project?

The purpose of this project is to support Wisconsin passenger rail service, specifically the on-time performance of the trains. The Hiawatha Service and Empire Builder passenger trains currently encounter delays when one of the two main rail tracks is out of service for any reason. This delay negatively impacts the otherwise excellent on-time performance of these trains. The improvements will increase the reliability of rail passenger service by providing a crossover midway between two existing crossovers located approximately 20 miles apart. This project will provide alternative paths for trains to take when one of the tracks is out of service due to maintenance, construction activity or disabled trains.
