WIS 60 (US 45 - 11th Ave.) - Need/purpose

Why is this project needed?

WIS 60 is a crucial east/west route in the SE Region of Wisconsin that carries high volumes of traffic between I-43 in Ozaukee County and US 45 and US 41 in Washington County.

Not only does WIS 60 need to accommodate for the heavy volumes of east/west traffic in the region, it also serves as a important commercial corridor for the villages of Jackson and Grafton, and the city of Cedarburg.

Currently, WIS 60 travelers are experiencing high crash rates in the village of Jackson and into the rural areas of Washington and Ozaukee Counties. The crash rates in those areas, which represent a large majority of the corridor, are above the statewide average when compared to similar facilities across the state. Those safety issues along with increasing traffic volumes along the corridor present a need to examine the corridor as it operates today, as well as proposing improvements to ensure the corridor operates in a safe and efficient manner long into the future.

Project benefits/anticipated outcomes

A large goal of the study will be to produce a preferred alternative that has the ability to decrease safety issues along the corridor, while at the same time provide an efficient highway that can support the current and future capacity needs along this stretch of WIS 60.
