I-794/Hoan Bridge - Need/purpose

Why is this project needed?

I-794 Freeway and Daniel Hoan Bridge, in southeast Wisconsin’s transportation network, connects downtown Milwaukee and Bay View across the Milwaukee River inlet.

Hoan Bridge and I-794 are responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars of south shore community development, including Milwaukee’s South Side/Bay View, St. Francis, Cudahy, South Milwaukee and Oak Creek.

An in-depth inspection was initiated in 2010 to determine future needs of the Hoan Bridge.

Findings indicate that the structural integrity remains intact and the bridge is safe. Although continued maintenance projects have kept the bridge functional, a long-term solution is needed to keep this key route open for business.

The state is moving forward on a project to make major improvements to Daniel Hoan Bridge and I-794 Freeway.
