Traffic updates

  • Despite the impression that snow-covered ground and subzero temperatures may give, the highway construction season is just around the corner.
  • Stage 3 of this project will be gearing up for an early start to the season in a couple of weeks:
    • Pre-warning message boards will be staged starting the week of Feb. 18.
    • Initial lane closures will be set starting the week of Feb. 25. These lane closures will:
      • be used to prepare the northbound roadway for counter directional traffic.
      • affect both the northbound and southbound lanes.
      • include night closures that will reduce the northbound lanes to one through lane.
    • If things go well, the roadway will be in counter directional configuration by the weekend of Mar. 2.
    • During the counter directional stage, traffic will be reduced to two lanes in each direction and be confined to the northbound lanes with temporary concrete barrier separating the lanes. The median crossovers south of County V and north of County U will be utilized.
    • The work will occur on the southbound bridge, and be a mirror image of the work that was completed in spring 2012.
      • Abutment backwalls will be replaced
      • Joints will be replaced
      • Structural repairs will be performed
      • New concrete approaches constructed
    • The work is scheduled to be completed before May 17, 2013.
    • Additional work will take place in the fall of 2013 on the southbound lanes, again a mirror image of last year’s work including deck repair and overlay.

All closures are dependent on favorable weather conditions. Please drive with caution through work zones.
