  • WIS 80 from the WIS 13/73 west intersection to the WIS 13/73/80 intersection was routed concurrently with WIS 13/73 within the village of Pittsville and town of Wood
  • WIS 80 from the WIS 13/73 west intersection to the US 10 west/WIS 13 intersection was routed concurrently with WIS 13 within the towns of Wood and Richfield

  • Existing US 10 from County N to WIS 34 south will become Portage County P within the Town of Eau Pleine

When will the changes occur?

The 2011 Portage County P route change will occur once the new US 10 bypass of Junction City, between WIS 34 south and WIS 34 north, is completed and opens to traffic. This highway segment was completed in 2011.

The WIS 80 route change occurred in 2011.

The 2012 Wood and Portage County P route change will occur once the new US 10 segment from WIS 186 to WIS 34 south (west of Junction City) is completed and opens to traffic. This highway segment is currently scheduled for completion in August 2012.

The WIS 13 route change is scheduled to occur in August 2012.

What are the primary reasons for the system changes?

WisDOT is constructing US 10 as a new four-lane highway from Marshfield to Stevens Point, including bypasses of Auburndale, Blenker, Milladore, Junction City, and Stevens Point. As part of this project, various state and local highway/street system changes will take place. These changes are being done to reorganize the highway/street system to the appropriate jurisdiction. Some factors considered in defining these changes include safety, travel efficiency, system continuity, and traffic volumes.

How will traffic volumes be impacted by the system changes?

With the opening of the new US 10 segments, the majority of through traffic is expected to take the new highway, removing a significant amount of truck traffic along existing US 10 and through the villages of Auburndale, Milladore, and Junction City.

Traffic volumes along the existing WIS 13 and WIS 13/73 segments from Pittsville to US 10 west (south of Marshfield) are not expected to change with addition of the WIS 80 route.

Traffic volumes along the existing WIS 13/73 segment from Pittsville to Wisconsin Rapids are expected to somewhat decline with the removal of WIS 13 route and the completion of new US 10. Volumes along existing WIS 34 segment from Wisconsin Rapids to Junction City are expected to somewhat increase with the addition of WIS 13 route and the completion of new US 10.

How will my address be impacted? Will my address number change? Will I continue to receive my mail?

Along new County P, very few address changes will occur within the villages of Auburndale, Milladore, and Junction City. The address street name in the villages will remain “Main Street”. Beyond the limits of the villages, the address street name will change to “County Road P”.

Along the new WIS 80 route, no address changes will occur in 2011. However, in late summer 2012, when WIS 13 is rerouted, the address street name will change to “State Highway 80” from the WIS 73 west intersection to US 10.

In late summer 2012, most mailing addresses along the former WIS 13 route between Pittsville and Wisconsin Rapids will change to “State Highway 73”.

When WIS 13 is rerouted in late summer 2012 along existing WIS 34 between Wisconsin Rapids and Junction City, the address street name will change to “State Highway 13/34”.

WisDOT contacted the counties, emergency responders, municipalities, and US Postal Service about the route changes and they are preparing for the address changes.

The US Postal Service will continue to deliver mail to the old addresses for one year. They will notify the larger mailers of the address changes. Residents and businesses along the changed routes should contact smaller mailers, like local businesses, banks, and medical offices.

  • NOTE - It is not necessary for residents and businesses to fill out a change of address card with the Post Office.

Will emergency responses be impacted by the system changes?

WisDOT informed the Portage and Wood county emergency management offices about the route changes and they are in the process of updating their 911 systems for these changes. The counties use both addresses and geographical coordinates in their systems to determine the location of callers. The geographical coordinate aspect will not change with the route changes.

Who determines my address? Who will contact me with my new address? When? How?

The county emergency management offices will work with the local municipalities to determine the new addresses along the impacted routes. Once the new addresses are determined, the counties and/or municipalities will notify the US Postal Service and residences and businesses along the routes. For the 2011 Portage County P route change, the notifications occurred in spring 2011. For the rest of the changes, the notifications are scheduled to occur in spring 2012.
