Project overview

Project extends 12.2 miles and includes a western bypass of Westby, a four-lane expansion between Tristate and Springville roads, and an eastern bypass of Viroqua.

  • US 14 and US 61 are major regional highways serving southwestern Wisconsin.
  • US 14 is a major link between Madison and La Crosse. It provides access to recreational and tourism destinations as well as numerous farming communities.
  • US 61 is a major link (east of WIS 35 along the Mississippi River) between Dubuque, Iowa, and La Crosse.

Improvements are proposed to US 14/61 in order to meet growing traffic demand and anticipated to be implemented in three segments:

Project cost estimated at $32 million, including real estate acquisition and construction.

Status/phase

  • Segment 1 (Westby-Viroqua) - Project completed
  • Segment 2 (Westby Bypass) - Design work with no construction activity
  • Segment 3 (Viroqua Bypass) - Design work with no construction activity
