US 51 corridor, Dane County central segment (Stoughton Road) - Alternatives analysis

The alternatives analysis includes development of possible long-term solutions to address the problems identified in the Needs Assessment (NA).

Alternatives to be analyzed were developed and selected using public input. An alternative solutions workshop was held May 3, 2004, at La Follette High School to provide a community-wide opportunity for public comment.

Coordination with local officials, businesses, neighborhood associations and other focus groups is on-going throughout the design process. Two advisory committees are helping guide the process.

Possible alternatives

Road and bike facility alternatives

The alternatives in this section were presented at public information meetings (PIMs) conducted on March 29 and 30, 2006. They were developed by the project team based upon input gathered at public workshops held in 2004.

The project team includes a bicycle consultant, WE Bike, to provide recommendations to improve the travel environment for bicyclists and pedestrians. All the alternatives include grade-separated bike/pedestrian crossings, and some off-road path linkages.

The alternatives may be revised based upon comments received at the 2006 PIMs, subsequent meetings with residents, business owners and local officials.
