WIS 241 Corridor Study - Need/purpose

Crash rates are above the statewide average for a majority of the corridor

Data for the three-year period from 2004 to 2006 was analyzed:

• There were 296 total crashes of which 118 were injury crashes.
• Crash rates between College and Rawson are twice the statewide average for this type of highway and above statewide average between Rawson and Drexel and from Ryan Road to the county line.
• Injury crash rates between College and Rawson are 2.6 times the statewide average for this type of highway and more than two times the statewide average between Ryan Road and the county line and above average between Rawson and Drexel.
• Over 50 percent of the accidents occurred at intersections.

Traffic growth and congestion

• Due to the transition in adjacent land use from rural to urban uses, traffic is expected to grow along the entire corridor at a faster rate than the historic growth trend.
• Traffic congestion will increase and operations at intersections will worsen by 2038.
• WIS 241 is an incident management route for I-94 and may experience detoured traffic from I-94 if lanes are closed due to incidents.

Lack of bicycle and pedestrian accommodations

• Pedestrian and bicycle accommodations are discontinuous throughout the corridor.
