Vehicle history information

Consumers can now obtain a vehicle's title brand history, odometer data and other basic vehicle information to make better-informed purchasing decisions.

The U.S. Department of Justice offers access to an online computer system that helps protect states and consumers from automobile fraud. The National Motor Vehicle Title Information System, or NMVTIS, is available to consumers and is accessible through a third-party, fee-for-service Web site.

Wisconsin vehicle title information is available through NMVTIS. Other NMVTIS participants include Alabama, Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming, so consumers can easily get information on vehicles titled in these states as well.

This U.S. Department of Justice press release offers more detailed information.
