Wisconsin's transportation security response

What are we doing?

The threat of terrorism has been addressed on many fronts in Wisconsin at federal, state and local levels. The Department of Military Affairs' Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) coordinates state government's preparedness and response efforts.

  • Many state agencies, including Natural Resources; Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection; Transportation and the Public Service Commission, participate in Wisconsin's response and recovery plans.
  • Nearly 8,000 local law enforcement, fire, public works, and emergency medical agencies and personnel are trained in how to respond to potential terrorism incidents.
  • The Governor's Homeland Security Council is helping Wisconsin enhance its ability to respond quickly and efficiently to any incident.

The combined efforts of government, business and individual citizens form the basis of Wisconsin's fight against terrorism.

Is Wisconsin at risk?

Terrorist incidents involving weapons of mass destruction pose a threat to the security of the U. S., including Wisconsin. Terrorists often use threats to create fear, to try to convince citizens that their government is powerless to prevent terrorism, and to get publicity for their causes.

  • While the threat to Wisconsin is not great, our vulnerability has been reduced through increased security at airports and other public facilities.
