Driving safely around trucks: Vision Decision

• Maintain at least a 4 second following distance when behind a large vehicle. Allow an increased following distance depending on speed and weather conditions.
• Following too closely can contribute to unsafe passing and rear-end crashes.
• It takes the average passenger car, traveling at 55 mph, 130-140 feet to stop; whereas a fully loaded truck, traveling at the same speed, may take more than 400 feet to come to a complete stop.
