The mighty roar

The State Patrol added motorcycles to its fleet of vehicles in the mid-1950s for greater mobility through heavy traffic. Trained State Patrol officers continue to ride motorcycles for quick responses to congested areas and for escort duties.  In addition, the State Patrol Bureau of Transportation Safety operates the Wisconsin Motorcycle Safety Program, which launched THE REF (Transportable High End Rider Education Facility) in 2010 to promote motorcycle rider education and public awareness of the need to share the road.
