Merrimac Ferry

December 10, 2009 - The Colsac III, the car ferry across the Wisconsin River between Columbia and Sauk Counties, closed for the winter season due to ice on the river.

The ferry will resume operations in the spring of 2010.

The Merrimac Ferry, which crosses the Wisconsin River between Sauk and Columbia counties, is Wisconsin's only free ferry. It shuttles WIS 113 traffic 24 hours a day, seven days a week, between Okee on the east bank and Merrimac on the west.

The craft holds 15 vehicles at a time, in addition to bicycles and pedestrians. A single crossing takes about seven minutes.
